A tool you do not control is a tool that controls you. The whole point of a homelab, a self-hosted blog, a vault you own on disk, is that the substrate answers to you and not the other way around.
This is not about distrust of the cloud. It is about keeping the option to walk away — to move the files, change the renderer, host it anywhere — without asking permission. Ownership is optionality.
That is the ideal, anyway. The rest is just wiring.
